Recent developments in Europe have indicated that communication between people from a different origin is becoming more and more complex. Wars, armed conflicts, refugee crisis are causing tensions, misunderstanding and alarming trend of becoming more encapsulated inside our cultural space, to take a defensive position against foreign. The main priority of our project is to enhance social inclusion, cultural awareness and develop social, civic, intercultural competencies among our students, teachers, parents, school and local communities. To achieve this goal, it is essential to realize that principles of inclusive education will become one of the most important ways to follow. It is based on learning to know, to do, to be and to live together. All participants in this project have a very different background. Moreover, the diversity in every school itself is one of the main characteristics of every participant organization. Therefore, to reduce disparities in the learning process will be another priority of the project. Including all our students, regardless their origin, religion, gender or values to the process of learning about each other, from each other, embracing our differences and similarities is the key how to move towards integrated society, become more culturally aware and interculturally competent. Cultural diversity is a valuable asset which, unfortunately, is often seen as a threat to origin culture (language, religion, values, customs, etc.). The cause of this is very often ignorance and fear. From that soil, the exclusion and stereotypical thinking are easy to grow. It leads us to another goal of our project: we will aim to break the ethnic, religious and gender stereotypes, discrimination, and exclusion by a better understanding of roots of other cultures. Therefore, focusing on wedding tradition is a clever way to introduce the diversity of cultures of participating countries in more interesting and hands-on way. Marriage and wedding customs as a central theme of the project was chosen after thorough consideration. First of all, wedding traditions represent the oldest layer of nations folklore; it is the rawest face of who we are and the fact that we still keep those traditions alive in nowadays ceremonies is substantial. Different traditions, beliefs, different periods of life, the process of becoming a family are assembled into wedding customs. Our students will have excellent opportunity to learn about different fields of each others wedding: clothing, food, customs, religion, music and dance, etc. and through that, they will learn to understand and respect the culture of another origin than their own. Through innovative integrated approaches, students will have an opportunity to learn in a more interesting way, to gain new experience in a practical way. On the other hand, the meaning of marriage is uniting two families, welcoming another family to ours. This means getting to know, accept and respect the culture that comes into our home, but also break and overcome the fear of other and stereotypical thinking. We aim to enhance that way of thinking with our project. Metaphorically, for the peaceful coexistence of different cultures in nowadays society, for happy "marriage," we must (as members of society) understand each other, accept and respect, break the fear and stereotypes. The sectoral priority that matches the best way to our project is promoting the acquisition of skills and competencies. During this project, we aim to increase reading literacy and critical thinking skills among our students. For achieving this goal, it is essential to develop 21st Century skills: skills of critical thinking and problem solving, flexibility and adaptability, and productivity and accountability. Our aim is to promote child-centred learning and teaching methods, like personalization and differentiation, which are moving further away from rote learning and emphasizes hands-on, experience-based, active, collaborative and project-based learning. We will create, share and use innovative teaching methods to reach our goals. Our project uses inter-disciplinary approaches, and its aim is to show students that the knowledge from different subjects is used in their lives inseparably. Teaching tolerance, respect, acceptance of differences of other nationalities, religions, and ways of life will be an important part of our education system. Therefore is important to work together on an international level and create the environment and baggage of skills students can use to cope in multilingual and multicultural society.
